Queen Charlotte Track transport
A boat ride through the magnificent Queen Charlotte Sound to the beginning of The Queen Charlotte Track is one of the highlights of the whole experience.The Cougar Line vessels are the first and fastest to and from the track each day. A boat trip will also return you back to Picton from whichever exit point you choose.
Cruise through the sheltered waterways of this intricate maze of inlets and bays en route to your destination. Your friendly skipper delivers an informative commentary on the history and magic of the Queen Charlotte Sound.
The Queen Charlotte Sound is an eco marine haven so there is a likely chance you will see dolphins, seals, cormorants and gannets along the journey. From the seal's basking in the early morning sun, the shags and gannets diving for their first fish of the day, to the Sooty Shearwaters skimming across the water, there is always plenty to see. Hopefully the dolphins will be around. We have a marine mammal permit, so we will be able to spend some time observing their antics.
Boat departures to the track
A scheduled fast ferry service operates to and from the track daily.
Our boats leave from Picton 364 days a year (Christmas Day being the exception) to the start of the track and points along the way.
Cruising the track
Cougar Line offers some wonderful cruise options around the Queen Charlotte Sound.
It is also possible to transfer by boat each day to your accommodation along the track. This arrangement is ideal for families and friends who wish to join up together at the end of the day.
Pack transfers
Cougar Line offers a complimentary pack transfer service for every biker or walker booking a Round Trip Track Pass.
Your luggage will be transferred each day to your accommodation of choice along the track. You need only carry a day- pack each day.
Bikes & kayaks
Bikes and kayaks are transported with care to points along the track.
The Cougar Line can also help you with biking and / or kayaking and transfer packages to help make planning a breeze.
Bike and kayak hire can be easily arranged with neighbouring companies.
